NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT) is a corrective manual therapy approach that identifies and treats neuromuscular imbalances by addressing dysfunctional movement patterns stored in the nervous system. The central premise of NKT is that when an area of the body is injured or inhibited, the nervous system compensates by recruiting other muscles to perform the required action. Over time, these compensations become habitual motor patterns, leading to persistent pain, decreased performance, altered posture, and increased risk of re-injury.
NKT uses muscle testing to assess functional relationships between muscles and identify which muscles are inhibited or overactive. Once an imbalance is identified, a combination of targeted manual therapy (such as soft tissue work or proprioceptive input) and specific corrective exercises are applied. This process aims to “reset” the neural pathways so that appropriate muscles are re-recruited, restoring efficient motor patterns and reducing compensatory strain.
NeuroKinetic Therapy is commonly used for conditions associated with chronic or recurrent pain and dysfunctional movement patterns, including low back pain, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica, hip dysfunction, rotator cuff tendinopathy, knee pain, postural imbalances, and performance limitations in athletes. It is also used as a complementary intervention in rehabilitation programs to support recovery from injury, improve flexibility, and enhance functional movement by addressing the underlying neuromuscular drivers of dysfunction.
At PrecisionPT , we believe in treating the whole person, not just the injury. We work with each patient to develop a customized treatment plan that meets their specific needs.
